ABOUT FRESCOS

The images created by the artist Kobayr are distinguished by simplicity and masculinity. The type of faces is quite specific.

It stands out for its correct proportions, close to the samples of Byzantine art. Large almond-shaped eyes, eyebrow arches, small nose and mouth are emphasized.

This characteristic aesthetic ideal of the artist was embodied in the image of Christ. The image of Christ seems especially significant due to its large size and gaze directed at the viewer.

The eyes of Christ are the compositional center of the entire painting of the apse of the monastery and constantly return the viewer's gaze to themselves.

CONCEPT

The main RESTORATION CONCEPT of the complex is an open-air museum.

The main museum exposition includes seven buildings of the monastery complex - THE BIG church, a AISLE at a BIG church and a vestibule, the Mariamashen church and its AISLE, a refectory and a belfry-burial vault.

The central object of the museum's exposition is THE BIG church with preserved frescoes AND A LIGHTWEIGHT FRAME CONSTRUCTION ABOVE IT.

THE CONSTRUCTION REPRESENTS three trusses with a step of two meters. THE FACING MATERIAL WILL REPLACE RUINED PART OF THE STONE WALL AND ROOF OF THE CHURCH.

The facing material of the construction is monolithic polycarbonate. Monolithic polycarbonate are sheets made using a method of extrusion, characterised by especially high durability, shock resistance and light weight.

THIS SOLUTION PROTECT the interior and frescoes of the church from weather conditions, but will also restore INITIAL shape of the BIG church of Kobayr, repeating parts of the walls and roof that were DAMAGED from the earthquake.
