The 200-square-meter apartment, originally constructed in 1986, was characterized by small openings and a dominance of white color in the spaces, with intricate carved furniture as part of its decor. Despite having lived there since childhood, the tenant decided it was time to modernize the apartment and align it with their needs through a minimalistic aesthetic.

The first intervention undertaken was the maximization of natural lighting in the living area. This was achieved by expanding the openings in the living room and kitchen, using low-profile aluminum frames for maximum energy efficiency and aesthetics.

The second intervention involved removing the dividing wall that separated the kitchen from the living room, creating a subtle continuity between these spaces. Additionally, the fireplace was removed, and the existing column was adorned with lacquered wood, highlighting the kitchen and establishing a pleasing visual connection. A kitchen island was also added, providing functionality and style, becoming a focal point for visitors.

A third intervention encompassed creating a storage area and a closet at the entrance. This practical solution allows for organized storage of coats, shoes, and small items upon entering the apartment.

In the dining area, an 18th-century antique was retained, while the adjacent room was transformed into a versatile office or guest space. This area features a sizable workspace with integrated shelves for storage, along with a comfortable seating/bedding for reading or relaxation. This change offers the owner a flexible workspace while enjoying the tranquility and privacy required.

Finally, the existing three main bedrooms and three bathrooms underwent minor modernization interventions, preserving their functionality and refreshing their aesthetic character.

The apartment renovation also included installing a heat pump, ventilation with heat exchangers in each room, thermal insulation, a solar water heater system, external shading systems, and the creation of a KNX smart home system.
