About Louis-Hébert Residence
Louis-Hébert Residence: A Modern Makeover
Vives St-Laurent has beautifully transformed the Louis-Hébert residence in Montreal’s Rosemont area. This one-time duplex now shines with a mix of modern and traditional styles. The architects, revisiting their work from 15 years prior, focused on updating the first floor and the upstairs bathroom. They kept the bedrooms as they were but redesigned other spaces for a family of five.
A Warm Welcome
Step inside and you’ll see a layout typical of Montreal homes. A central hallway leads to all the rooms. Right next to the entrance, there’s now a cozy boudoir. It’s got a bookcase, comfortable seating, and a desk. A glass partition separates this space while letting in lots of light.
Cherishing the Old
The team took care to keep the house’s original features. They smoothed out the arches for a softer look and sandblasted the floors to maintain the home’s original vibe. The ceiling medallions from the old layout add a unique touch.
Living Spaces in Harmony
The staircase got a facelift to fit the new look. The steps were redone to match the floors, and the railing was updated for a lighter feel. The dining room features an antique piece, now with fluted glass, sitting alongside a custom-made white oak table.
Blending Inside and Outside
The back of the house was redone to better connect with the yard. A big window offers a great view of the pool and garden. The kitchen features a white oak island and soft-colored quartz. It’s a peaceful space, with a hidden coffee corner and pantry for extra storage.
Bright and Airy Upstairs
The second floor is full of light, thanks to skylights over the staircase and in the bathroom. These add to the calm and relaxing feel of the house. The bathroom vanity matches the kitchen style, tying the whole house together.
In short, the Louis-Hébert project is more than just a renovation. It’s a perfect blend of old and new, making the house both stylish and comfortable.
