About Sequences
A Modern Milanese Masterpiece
Llabb architects redefine an apartment on Via Spontini in Milan, accentuating it with six expansive windows. These meticulously crafted details hail from the creative minds of Federico Robbiano and Luca Scardulla, the duo behind the Genoa-based design firm.
Setting the Scene
Nestled in Milan’s Buenos Aires – Loreto neighborhood, the apartment sits just 30 minutes from the iconic Cathedral. It sprawls across sixty square meters (approx. 645 square feet), claiming the fifth floor of a mid-twentieth-century edifice at Corso Buenos Aires and Via Spontini’s intersection. The sheer influx of sunlight remains the apartment’s crown jewel, an update masterminded by llabb for a globetrotter splitting his days between Genoa and Milan.
A Seamless Redesign
Federico Robbiano and Luca Scardulla’s renovation genius reshapes the apartment, enhancing the flow and partitioning the bedroom. Robbiano remarks, “The rhythmic south-facing openings connect the diverse apartment spaces, amplifying their expanse.”
Inside the Layout
Upon entry, the first space welcomes visitors into a luminous, elongated hallway that seamlessly merges into the living room, the home’s beating heart. Adjacent, the kitchen and dining areas offer visual transparency to the living room. The streamlined kitchen runs parallel to the windowed wall, while furnishings perpendicular to it amplify their cadence.
To the entrance’s left, a glossy green stoneware partition harbors the sleep sanctum. This wall boasts two expansive sliding doors adorned with semicircular opaline glass. In their embrace, they mimic a creamy moon. Once apart, these doors unveil a niche for a mobile bookcase and TV, easily relocated to the living area.
Scardulla reflects, “These geometries’ precision juxtaposes the soft luminescence permeating them.”
Dynamic Living Spaces
With the sliding doors, domestic realms fluctuate between intimacy and openness. They choreograph ever-evolving scenes, toggling visual access throughout the residence.
Scardulla elucidates, “These doors mold space. Their solid-void interplay and translucency enliven dynamic dialogues between visitors and their surroundings.”
Oak hardwood flooring, adorned in a French herringbone pattern, lends continuity and warmth. The sun, in consort with thick oak-framed windows, sketches vivacious shadows that amplify the project’s geometry. Long curtains drape the windowed wall, modulating light without severing the outdoor connection.
Robby elaborates, “Our studio thrives on spatial tension. Sequential spaces should hint at their continuation without full disclosure, bridging divisions with unity.”
Contrasting Aesthetics
In a departure from the ethereal living quarters, the bathroom opts for intense hues and playful reflections. Marble-mimicking stoneware tiles contrast an oak bathroom cabinet’s bespoke charm.
Minimalist furnishings populate the rooms without overwhelming them. Tailored closets and storage solutions wear neutral palettes, ceding the limelight to iconic pieces. Notable mentions include Rodolfo Dordoni’s Filigree table, Ron Gilad’s Panna Cotta bedside table, Gio Ponti’s Bilia lamp, and Scandinavian modernist additions.
Llabb’s Testament to Excellence
Through this Milanese jewel, llabb’s young architects, already esteemed for bespoke and spirited designs, underscore their prowess.
