Kyїv Gamir Coffee is a city cafe located in the residential district close to the main Kyiv train station. In the past, the space was an entryway with stairs to a condominium. Our goal was to create a comfortable working area for barista and a cozy space for guests in just 14m2 (including stairs). The cafe comfortably accommodates up to 7 guests. Two seating areas are available for visitors: bar seats along the wall across the counter, and the stairs with movable wooden seats and cushions.
In this interior design project, we transformed a coffee shop into an inviting space that combines modern minimalism aesthetic and industrial details with authentic Ukrainian cultural elements. We used traditional decorative stucco “mazanka”. Our ancestors used it to decorate walls 100 years ago. They plastered walls by hand with a mixture of clay and straw. We used this technique on the bar facade and the wall with niches. Traditional decor elements from different regions of Ukraine add authentic flavor to the space: the shelves feature candle holders and vases from Kosiv vintage sheep figures from Vasylkiv, and Carpathian rug ornaments the wall.
This coffee shop interior design project seamlessly merges modern minimalism with Ukraine’s rich cultural heritage. It provides a serene and snug setting for guests to enjoy coffee, pastries, and a taste of Ukrainian tradition in a contemporary setting.
