Lune, an established brand built on purity and precision, called upon Ewert Leaf to create an interior that elevated the user experience, represented the brands aspirations whilst also embraced attention to detail. The space was to be void of all visual noise and celebrate the craft of croissant making.

Each individual Lune croissant represents creativity, precision, and innovative thinking. Therefore, instinctively, we delved into these key themes, unpacked them, and ultimately crafted a curated interior that focused on framing each individual pastry.

The integral pragmatic and functional requirements were approached as if it were objects in space. The relationship between each element was meticulously explored and questioned. Achieving the perfect balance between positive and negative space around each design insertion was paramount.

Our experimental approach allowed us to reengineer Lune’s iconic palette, analyzing each material with fresh eyes to create unique synergies between, stainless steel and aged brass, artisan render and polished glass. Concrete was used as an anchor to strengthen the relationship between each finish.

The design of Lune Armadale is reflective of a gallery typology, rather than that of a traditional bakery. Lune’s practice breaks traditional methods and convention, making way for progressive thinking and ingenuity. It is how this notion has been translated into a physical space that will ultimately evoke curiosity and intrigue from the local Armadale community, passersby and customers.

The experience of buying a croissant from Lune is like no other. A defined linear direction towards the hand painted gold leaf signage is formed by the standing bar clad in Calacatta Viola, a unique choice of stone, synonymous with the clientele of Armadale. Directional spots high light a distinct row of meticulously placed, golden pastries, the raw concrete below them forming the perfect canvas. Upon being greeted and placing an order, the customer is then invited to explore the tactile interior, interacting with a variety of textured surfaces.

The level of refinement achieved at Lune Armadale is the result of a deep understanding of the client and a highly collaborative approach to design. By studying Lune’s history, practices, and aspirations as a business we able to push the boundaries of convention and design.

Innovation in how we approach design made possible by implementing Virtual Reality technology enabled us to be experimental, take risks and explore details to their full potential. Very much like the way in which Lune approaches the art of croissant making.
