Why movement and space?

The body or more specifically movement makes sense within a spatial context.Whether natural or constructed.There is no reason or motivation for movement that is not influenced by the space we inhabit, be it dancing or walking.by the space we inhabit, be it dancing or walking.

For a long time I focused on nature as a context and as a source of inspiration to explain that movement.as a source of inspiration to explain that movement.Over time, architecture has filled my curiosity.Becoming the axis of my research and work.

I am interested in how inspiration can arise from built spaces, from artificial places.I want to discover how is the relationship that arises between the body and movement,in a space designed for aesthetic and functional purposes.

How the development times are similar between film, dance, photography and architecture.How the right timing allows to contemplate and see beyond the simple surface.

Dance, serves me as a tool to perceive the space beyond my sensibilities.

This commissioning of work, on the occasion of the anniversary of the college of architects of Tenerife is an honor for me, and a key point in my research process between movement and space.It has been a unique opportunity to work in one of the architectural emblems of my island.

Therefore, on this occasion I wanted to count on the dancer Carmen Fumero (La Laguna, Tenerife) one of the references of contemporary dance in the national scene, and one of the best interpreters and creators in my opinion.

We used as a starting point the modularity of the building, and its function as a point of connection with the city, as a cultural axis around which the society of the capital orbits.How the building functions autonomously in each of its areas, and how from within it arises a need to open up to the city, to culturally enrich the capital.

We wanted to make a contemporary representation, to show the sensations that the building awakened in us today, how the use that has been given to it over the years conditions its form and functionality.To be honest and current with the building.

With this we created an audiovisual and photographic project that is the result of that experience, of that conversation between space, image and dance.
