Open air shopping in a renovated townhouse.
This project is a research on how to create different shopping experiences for a fashion shop.
Shopping nowadays is often within enclosed, unnaturally lit spaces. This project is the opposite of what regular shopping spaces look like.
The renovation of this townhouse, with on the groundfloor a fashion shop and living spaces on top wants to counter the most common shopping experiences.
The fashion shop is created as an open air shopping space where daylight becomes the main experience.
By opening the shop towards the garden the visitor of the shop gets a totally different experience. Shopping around daylight, with sliding windows that can totally open towards the garden.
The garden becomes part of the street. The small inner street in cobble stones connects the garden and the shop with the city street in Lokeren.
It encourages the curiosity of the passant and gives something back to the street.
The townhouse is renovated with respect for what was there but has a totally new extension towards the back.
It is suprising and creates an atmosphere in the shop that can not often be experienced in other shops.
