Located on the ground floor of a turn-of-the-century building, in the pedestrian area of San Dona' di Piave, FORNARIA is a new concept store that occupies the site of an old bakery, later transformed into a paint shop.
The space is configured as a shop-container of design collections linked to the territory, handcrafted products and accessories kept and sorted also in the open warehouse that customers can visit.
Walking along the pedestrian area, the corner facing the shop offers the windows considerable visibility enhanced by the use, in the windows, of reduced section profiles which, in addition to limiting the impact on the facade, enhance the original external cladding in travertine. The neutral colour of the metal frames adopts a matte paint that changes its appearance depending on the incidence of natural light.
The design of the space places contemporary objects in dialogue with the restoration and cleaning of portions of the original structures which thus become the starting point of the project.
The concept of the intervention is based on the idea of enhancing the existing space through the insertion of a central element into the existing industrial concrete floor, rebuilt as it was.
Precious marbles such as Calacatta Monet and Calacatta Paonazzo, deriving exclusively from processing waste, make up a central floor-level carpet on which the marble and metal furniture stand.
The laying pattern, in parallel bands, of the different types of marble is also repeated on the support surfaces of the furniture to underline the new language of the objects inserted within the space.
The interior spaces are distributed over three areas: the area of the main shop with the corner entrance, a second more internal room of the warehouse, which houses a door and a new window facing a small secret garden; finally, the third area with a sitting room – dressing room, designed not only for trying on garments but as a possible place for socializing.
Each area is characterized by a different relationship with the existing structures, in the “salottino” area, for example, the original ceramic tiles, have been removed, cleaned, and reapplied in the same position to preserve the memory of the old bakery laboratory.
The whole space is illuminated by pendant lights, hung directly from the ceiling like stalactites, custom made for this project.
