Architect:Nobuo Araki / The Archetype
Location:Tokyo, Japan; | ;View Map
Project Year:2015
Category:Shops
For this project, the client requested that we design a house with an interior that embodies his love for sneakers.
To realize this unique request, we thought about ways in which we could to integrate the presence of sneakers into architecture. We started by researching how sneakers became a fashion item, along with their close relationship with hip-hop culture, and became inspired by the way in which hip-hop musicians sample music from previous generations. From this, we asked the question of whether we could apply a similar idea to architecture? With this challenge in mind, we designed the interior by mixing fragments of typical residential elements from trends from the past, with the objective of synthesizing them like a musician making a remix from old samples, or knitting a kilt from various motives.
