Beijing's CBD Core is the final urban component which completes implementation of the CBD Comprehensive Master Plan. A 48 hectare parcel is envisioned as the new center of business activity and will establish the Core's design identity. It occupies a highly visible and prominent position within the Beijing CBD Core, and is situated along the Third Ring Road, directly south of OMA's CCTV complex and east of the China World Trade Center.

The design acknowledges the original master plan and includes a signature 180 meter tall mixed-use tower, a 120 meter tall twisting residential tower, a major commercial center, and an intermodal transport center linking two metro lines with multiple bus routes and taxi queues. A dynamic interpretation of the master plan guidelines, the design has an influential urban role creating an immediate architectural impact, without overwhelming the neighboring CCTV complex and the new Gou Mao Tower.
