My first thought was that I had to make something unique and artistic and that has a very high end quality of design which means that you have to design every detail: the box, the skin and the sensations you have inside… It needs to be surprising. After the work we've made for the MOKA, which also had this philosophy, we needed to create a new concept for what a lounge experience is like.

I think the younger generations today especially in Seoul but also in countries in which culture is really present with a high quality of life, they have a certain type of taste that it's a related to 360 degree point of view of life. I thought the space should be surprising, full of quality and inviting you to love the experience that it offers. A place people would remember and share. So for me both spaces have this strength in which people of this generation will feel comfortable. The lounges offer a sophisticated and unique experience that tastes of culture, variety, art and design. I feel close to the generation the lounges are meant for. They are open to mixing and variety - transgressive in a way and this feels close to home for me.

The Hyundai Seoul space is more subtle and plays more with the part of design that is more simple, but at the same time carries a certain type of style, which is very much my style: trying to use materiality, lacquer surfaces with new components, and create a soft feeling.

The Pangyo lounge has a different taste: more technology based but also mixed up with tradition. There is a mix of bricks with metallic surfaces with patterns with colors, with traditional materials such as ceramics mixed together with sculptures that are made in fiber.

In every single piece of the place, the materiality is being expressed giving a sensation of extreme quality of design. On one hand, you have this set of high tech mixture with tradition. And on the other hand, you have these high quality of design mixed with the softness of the surface, that expresses definitely also the artistic components of my creativity.

In both the spaces, there is an expression, which is very different, but they both use combination and discovery. Every project has to be new, every project has make the most of the opportunity to develop and evolve the style that I've been creating for 25 years, becoming new every time by risking by doing which is where creativity actually looks you in the eye.

There is huge attention to detail considered in these two spaces, there's a big emphasis definitely, in every single piece of it. The atmosphere is enormous, there is a big, big component where the details are living, from the handles to the lighting, from the surfaces, to the patterns, from the sculptures to the lighting, from the quality of elements, to the seating, from the color chart, to the combination of places where materials meet. Both lounges have a great composition of tones and elements. They are a jungle of ideas.

It's a jungle of beauty in which, like an opera, everything sounds, you know, in a single way, but united they make a completely beautiful sound. Every inch of the spaces is photographable - every angle could be something that it's actually an emphasis to strength.I image a theater piece where every single space becomes a scene and by going inside you're part of the opera you're part of this space in which little by little you become the audience and there is an individual experience from each visitor. Comfort and the journey from one area to the other is essential.

The VIP lounges needed to be special. They must provide an experience that is unique as its customers - it needed to be desirable.The lounges should feel like a secret space that you are able to access because of your unique status as preferential customers. The spaces speak about freedom and being open. Its a generation that wants to see and to be seen and hopefully these spaces provide a perfect setting for the experience.

I think everything is important. aIf you look at the details of the furniture or you look at the details of the bar or you look at the details of how you enter the bathroom or how you feel about the furniture inside, you understand that every element plays a very important part of the whole.The sculptures are pure artistic expression and they also become functional as they are lighting elements as well. The sculptures are also reflection surfaces that have the ability of transporting the visitor into another world and wanting to discover it. Being an artist as well a a designer, for me any space needs to have a strong artistic identity. The animal feature that becomes humanized create a new animal that links you to humankind. It part of the exclusivity and uniqueness of the spaces and connects with their audience.

I wanted the spaces to be scenography and, as most of my design, they needed to be organic. As the human body and nature, the organic shapes are kinder and smoother In the Pangyo lounge, I use vertical straight lines too, aligned with the choice of material: tiles, metal, wood and brick. They intrinsically have vertical division and create a sense of rhythm which is quite different that The Hyundai Seoul lounge that is entirely organic inside and feels dreamy: it has the softness of the Mediterranean expressed through he type of floor, through the roundness of furniture, to the roundness of sculptures, and everything that it's around me, it surrounds and embraces you. Everything within the colors and the materials that I use, speak about materiality, when you think you discover material, you find a new one that combines in a very exclusive way, what it the feeling of the space.

Creating these spaces is like creating a painting, like a composition, I look at these spaces as a composition in which you're going to walk through. There needs to be risk and balance to the whole to the whole space. The patterns are also very important. They create a landscape depth, volume and texture.The doors have to be a very special feature. We created very unique doors for both spaces. The entrances, make you feel unique. The door is the access to another world and that's extremely beautiful. Its like walking into a channel that leads to another dimension.

Nothing geographical really altered the thought behind the design. I analysed the culture and the city. I have great admiration for Seoul. There is a strong sensibility to design, fashion, quality. We live in a sort of unique world in which inputs are coming from all over the place. And I think they unite in a certain way. In a space. I think I believe more in trying to connect with people trying to put myself into their minds and trying to what I would like to have when I enter a space like these.

Definitely does. All the sensitivity and learning process that I've had the opportunity to experience from my previous visits have been very important for me to visualise what to propose for these spaces. There is a lot of Korea there and it is a little bit Spanish too, because I bring also my experiences together. And I'm bringing the color and the elements and a lot of my personal art and my personal vision to it, hoping and thinking that it will connect even more to people. It is defined in terms of finding quality, it is defined in terms of finding comfort on using art in a specific way to create a composition. But it's obviously evolving constantly, especially having the opportunity to show in two spaces, two different areas.

Evolution is like dresses you wear when you're doing a catwalk in Paris or London or New York or anywhere. You're always challenging yourself by creating a new dress, by creating a new painting, by creating a new piece of art. You’re creating to evolve with the creation. Every new piece and every opportunity in interior design is an opportunity to recreate myself, to learn by doing, to visualize a new me into the project. And I think these two spaces are definitely the mirror of a new Jaime. Someone that is risking something, that is trying to find new codes without fear of the risk. I am in touch with my inner child in the way I just immerse myself into the experience, with all the senses lit to bring up the best they can.

I will tell them to enjoy. I will tell them this is made for you. This is only made for you. This is a scenography that should evolve and I welcome your eyes to look at the space to enjoy them and to every time you come to discover new part of it to sit down and see that it feels different to sit in this one than the other that it feels different to sit in space one, two or three. That the place will evolve completely from daytime to the night. It's always open to the idea that if you go there you will always definitely feel different and feel comfortable. I want them to enjoy because this is made with my biggest hope of bringing the best I can to them, so I hope they will enjoy it as much as I did by creating it. Thank you so much.
