This new corporate campus for a printing and environmental branding company brings employees from multiple buildings to a single future-flexible, amenity-filled headquarters. Nearly triple their prior space, the new building is a canvas for the company’s work, offers room to grow, and improves internal connections and efficiencies between office and production spaces.
The building massing was conceived as two wings. The smaller wing is situated at the back of the site, housing much of the office space. The second, larger wing, is home to an open production facility with shipping/receiving and a mezzanine for future internal expansion. The office and production wings are offset from one another creating a two-story lobby that divides the building’s two floors into four quadrants. A monumental stair and landing serve as a node to connect the two levels and four quadrants of the office area.
Tilt-up concrete was utilized for much of the production facility and as a series of solid planes along the office wing. The voids between concrete panels are infilled with glass to optimize daylighting and views. An orange metal panel – illuminated at night - surrounds the glass, uniting the building and celebrating the company’s brand. A subtle angle to the orange roof overhang along the south side of the building forms a shading device over the large glass expanse and two-level outdoor patio.
The new headquarters provides critical work and production spaces to improve capabilities and efficiencies. In addition, nearly 5,500 square feet is dedicated to shared amenity spaces. A large break room with fireplace and operable glass wall opens to an outdoor patio for all-staff meetings and social activities.
On the second floor, a multi-purpose gathering space equipped with a bar serves as an informal meeting space for clients and happy hours. Opposite the gathering room, double doors allow events to spill onto the adjacent outdoor terrace.
Company branding is embedded throughout the building, inside and out. Finishes and furnishings complement the architecture and integrate opportunities to communicate and showcase their work to potential clients. Motifs throughout the facility are inspired by the site and adjacent marsh and highlight the company’s history and expansion over the last eight decades.
A long corridor through the design studio, creates an experiential display terminating at a presentation room for client meetings. This space is equipped with an operable window-wall to connect the interior space to the outdoor terrace. The elevated design studio creates a tiered seating opportunity and allows for an intimate and collaborative working environment. Additional open collaboration spaces throughout the office area promote informal connections.
Future growth was critical to the design of the building. The office has the capacity for staff to nearly double in size as they expand into open workstations and collaboration areas as well as a 5,800-square-foot unoccupied mezzanine.
