Materialistically and structurally light addition to a top floor flat in an early-seventies typical residential building in central Tel-Aviv.

The project includes a complete renovation of the existing lower floor, a new staircase to the roof level and a light roof extension. The addition is made out of a steel structure, insulated roof panels, white aluminum cladding around the new roof stucture and large glazed openings.

The Extension inhabits an area defined by the previously existing common staircase concrete enclosure and the roof parapet, utilizing these elements for structural support. While the overall envelope is clearly a new addition, many details and decision were informed by a an aspiration to connect the existing structure with the new one,  such as the decision to retain the existing terrazzo copping, inserting in it new steel columns, making good and reusing in the new space.

Fixed steel louvers were installed along the southern façade, for climate control and privacy. A carefully chosen portion of the louvers were bended to create an area which frames a better view of the surrounding streetscape.

The flat itself has been reorganized so that the kitchen and living area have moved up the upper level, connecting to a roof terrace overlooking the surrounding area. This enables a more generous layout for the bedrooms and bathrooms located on the lower floor.
