Metro Line 14 is the first eastern express line in Shenzhen, passing through 4 major districts. The designer team explored the geographical elements around each station to create a "one stop, one sight" transportation route to improve the passenger experience and the appearance of the city.
As the largest rail transit single project in China, Gangxia North Metro Station is adjacent to the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center, Shenzhen Stock Exchange and other modern and technological landmarks in the CBD. The designer team proposed the concept of "Shenzhen Eye", using the huge open yard as the main axis of the building, allowing sunlight to fall naturally and eliminating the boringness of the underground space. In addition, the mathematical principle of "Fermat spiral" was used to design a ceiling scheme with visual tension, which conforms to modern esthetics and forms an orderly and transformative spatial shape.
Huangmugang Station, the first "tunnel-station-bridge" combining building in China, is adjacent to Shenzhen Sports Center, library and other places, and has a strong humanistic atmosphere. The designer team adopted the theme of "sunlight in the shade of trees" and used the huge column as the main element of the space. The atrium was decorated on three levels to regulate the angle of sunlight and make the original depressed underground space bright.
The process was designed by the team using parametric software to ensure environmental friendliness and efficiency. Louvered grilles made of special material were selected to regulate day and night light, mitigate temperature pressure, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, control costs, and ensure the sustainability of the city.
Through the design, the team hopes to strengthen the atmosphere of the public space, improve the riding experience, and assist the construction of Shenzhen's rail transportation, making Metro Line 14 a carrier of city culture.
