The entrepreneurs on the Gas Factory Site and the start-ups of the Business Innovation Campus together form an ecosystem and culture. The companies work together a lot and inspire each other to grow. This has led to more and more startups wanting to establish themselves at the Gasfabriek and scale-ups wanting to continue to grow here.

In order to provide space for this and to give the function of the Business Innovation Campus even more content and scale, an extension has been chosen. Architecten_Lab already designed the transformation of the three monumental buildings in 2015 and is now designing two new campus buildings and the site layout together with the Municipality of Deventer. The campus will have a lot of greenery, a beautiful park, a parking area covered with PV and a large event plaza .

Two architectural expressions have been devised for the new developments on the campus. The first approach is the "homogeneous extension" directly onto existing buildings in accordance with the route already taken at the regulation house. This is always an extension that does justice to the part to be expanded and it is then fairly homogeneous and unambiguous, so that the rich expression of the existing building continues to speak and is certainly not 'overshadowed'. Here too, the connecting material for the facade is Corten steel.

The second approach is the expo building. It concerns an architecture that is expressive and idiosyncratic, underlining the campus feeling. An expo building is detached and autonomous. It has a facade that is contemporary and does not have a classic structure like the existing authentic buildings. But also for this the connecting material for the facade is corten steel. This approach creates a family of different ingredients; existing buildings, homogeneous extensions and the expo buildings. The transformer house and office will be provided by Jimki Design & Art studio with a mural in coordinated colors. By nicely mixing this 'family' on the site, an attractive coherent overall image is created.
