Preserving the existing building and refurbishing it - that was the challenge for the architectural firm Fabian Wagner from Breitbrunn in Germany when it came to putting a boat house to a new use. Built in 1905, the building is the centrepiece of a sailing club in Utting am Ammersee, Germany. The wooden building with a high gable roof, a few windows and a large, two-winged gate served primarily as a parking space for boats until then.
When training rooms for the youth sailors were needed, the decision was made against a new building but in favour of restoring the existing building to its original state. In order to preserve the historic substance, the architects designed a house-in-house concept. On the lake side on the upper floor, a volume in timber frame construction was inserted. The new training room is now located here. This is separated from the interior by a ceiling-high profiled glass wall made of LAMBERTS LINIT ® EcoGlass clarissimo. This profiled glass is produced using non-structured rollers and offers an additional aesthetic appeal due to its good transparency.
