BURTENBACH´S TOWN HALL (Bayern, Germany) first historic mention is from 1558. Over its life, numerous modifications and changes to the existing structure have had a significant impact on the building, being the renovation of 1972 the one that left its most significant traces, leaving the interior in a substantially disadvantageous state.

The commission for the general refurbishment in 2015 gave us the opportunity to restore the building‘s historical value as well as to bring a new and fresh splendor. Only regional materials were used, such as lime for floor, wall and ceiling and ash wood for doors, furniture, and staircase parapet. Thanks to the involvement of local craftsmen, traditional knowledge and new digital production methods were combined to produce the finest elements and components. Spacial harmony was always one of the main objectives: from the earthly Terrazzo floors to the cream-soaped wall and ceiling, all articulated through the pure color of the ash wood. All these elements are silk-shimmering on the surface and generate a warm and soft light-flooded atmosphere.

An absolute novelty in this project is that the furniture, doors and the stair parapet were made without glue and metal, always looking for the most ecological construction standard. The traditional knowledge of wood properties paired with modern CNC production technologies (programming and milling) have given rise to a new design and a new architectural design language. Ecological materials and non-toxic joining techniques are a contemporary theme and were celebrated here in every detail.

In May 2019, after four years of construction, the project was completed and handed over to the municipality of Burtenbach.
