The architect Przemo Łukasik from Medusa Group in his apartment in Warsaw’s Praga created a pragmatic and distinct interior – consistent with the architecture of the building and a complex identity, of the city district.
A flat in Warsaw is a product that was created out of need – says Przemo Łukasik, architect, co-founder of the well-known Medusa Group studio. He permanently live with his family in hometown Bytom in Silesia district, in converted, old, miners lamphouse.
The Medusa Group studio undertakes projects all over the world. The reconstruction of a office building in London, a school in Bangladesh, reconstruction of a multi-storey garage in New York Tribeca or office extension on Wall Str. in cooperation with the BIG in NYC and Copenhagen. When Medusa opened its second headquarters in city of Warsaw, business trips to the capital became frequent. The decision was made to buy a small, compact apartment in a modern block of precast concrete in Prague, designed by the BBGK studio. On 55 m2 there are two bedrooms, living room with kitchenette, bathroom and terrace.

Przemo Łukasik. “
Przeom Łukasik
As a temporary space, apartment was supposed to be redy-to-useas quicj as possible, preserving the building substance as untoutched and raw as possible. – The choice of location itself was symbolic, the location on the right bank of the city, the authentic environment of old, sincere warsaw’s Prague, with extensive post-war scars, with …. plastered facades, and indigenous, local community – says Przemo Łukasik.
The choice of old Prague, as a place to be in Warsaw, was for Przeom Łukasik not coincidencial. That rough place was reminded him his beloved, postindustrial Bytom. Destroyed tenements, authentic courtyards and residents just down below. And from a terrace, from a distance Warsaw skyscrapers, blooming and illuminated at night.

Łukasik.

It was supposed to be pragmatic and natural like at home in Bytom: without hiding the construction scars, without makeup. He finished the simple and functional bathroom with white ceramic tiles and black grout. The fittings were made of copper pipes. Sealans and binders are visible near the windows and walls in the livingroom. Kitchenette made of hardwood plywood clearly cut off from concrete walls and floors. – I am probably the only resident of this building that did not plastered the prefabricated, concreate interior. I wanted to show that a development product can be easily used, tamed and given personality – emphasizes Łukasik.

Concrete floors, walls and ceilings remained untouched. Traces of plastered scars, unpainted concrete are the background for furniture sets. A few design icons with some stuff hunted at local flea market in Bytom and some other in Berlin creates an truly individual interior with a legible pedigree.Instead of expensive finishes there is functionality and the authenticity of the place. What else you need to live?
