Award-winning music star Bruno Mars enlisted globally renowned design studio Yabu Pushelberg to bring his one-of-a-kind vision to life. The collaboration resulted in The Pinky Ring, his sexy cocktail bar and jazz bar that opened at the Bellagio in Las Vegas in February.

Bruno Mars commissioned Yabu Pushelberg to design the brand identity, interior design, lighting and styling for this stunning venue. Serving as a space for Bruno's vivid imagination, Yabu Pushelberg seamlessly translates his cinematic concepts into hedonistic sensory experiences on the vibrant Las Vegas Strip. A gorgeous adult playground, The Pinky Ring immerses patrons in a glamorous atmosphere reminiscent of private penthouse parties in the 1970s. Drawing inspiration from the spirit of the Rat Pack, Sammy Davis Junior, Silk Sonic and music video lighting, the Pinky Ring represents the imagination of Bruno Mars.

After establishing the direction of the look and feel of The Pinky Ring, lighting played a vital role in creating the mood and atmosphere of The Pinky Ring. In pursuit of timeless glamour, where lighting not only transforms spaces but also people's perceptions, the Pinky Ring has launched a strategic lighting innovation designed to make people look and feel good. Yabu Pushelberg took this simple concept and started working on the complex execution.

Through the interplay of low-level, contrasting and accent lighting, Pinky Ring lighting design reveals the overlooked and unseen. From the sombre atmosphere to the carefully curated interior design to the lighting choices on stage, every detail was carefully chosen by Bruno Mars to highlight his timeless aesthetic and flair for understatement and simplicity.

The journey begins upon arrival, where guests are greeted by a circular screen wall that protects the Pinky Ring experience from external factors such as casino lights and sounds. Upon entering, guests are transported into another world, starting with a dimly lit mirrored hallway filled with Bruno Mars’ Grammy Award collection. Inspired by contemporary museum design, Yabu Pushelberg designed the corridor as a soothing and discreet exhibition space where guests can clear their visual palette and immerse themselves in the Pinky Ring, starting with the outside world.

The bar and lounge serve as a prelude and then arrive as a front room for entertainment. Guests are guided along an inviting arrival path that leads seamlessly to the Pinky Ring, a sunken conversation center that is the centerpiece of the 5,000-square-foot space. See or be seen, each area has its own style and purpose and echoes the next. Circles are a key symbol in The Pinky Ring’s visual language, representing Bruno Mars’ records, awards and accolades in an abstract and tasteful way.

Yabu Pushelberg knew that the visual identity of the bar had to reflect the essence of Bruno Mars. Drawing inspiration from the decorative typefaces of the 1960s and 1970s, Yabu Pushelberg embarked on a design exploration to create a bespoke lettering system and surrounding brand collateral that was innovative yet referenced the Pinky Ring interior Design ideas and color palette preferences. Centered around playful line manipulation, the font’s lush vertical and horizontal lines are washed in soft golden tones, striking the perfect balance between the weight and speed of the font. This custom font is the basis for The Pinky Ring branded collateral, including signage, menus, napkins and coasters.
