Australian lighting retailer Nook Collections has opened the doors of its first showroom in Sydney’s Surry Hills. For the brand that began as an online lighting destination in 2020, the space marks a milestone in the company’s development and a long-cherished dream for founder Monica Pomingi. Located in a historic building on Cleveland St, Nook has aptly taken over the former showroom of renowned Italian lighting brand Artemide.
Having carved out a reputation synonymous with excellence within the lighting industry, Nook now represents over 40 esteemed brands in the Australian market. With a strict focus on quality and originality, it comes as no surprise that their showroom features the same qualities.
Designed by Lisa Luppino of local studio Loopea Design, the space plays with personality within a muted palette, creating harmony between product and interior to allow the lighting fixtures to shine. Monica’s brief was simple: create a space that ignites inspiration among designers, architects, and the public, all while staying true to Nook’s values and brand essence.

Lisa focused on a concept centred around geometric activation, horizontal delineation and tonal ambience. Warm undertones of burgundy, blush, walnut and travertine simultaneously excite and soften, creating an energetic yet grounding experience. “The design intent was to punctuate a welcoming, evolving space whilst pushing it to the edge with plays on geometry, pattern and imposing form,” Lisa explains.
With towering ceiling heights and existing bulkheads, curves were added to ceiling junctions and openings where possible and walls were purposefully extended and punctured with geometric cutouts and flooded with shades of blush.
