Part concept store, showcasing the best in today’s design, and part Airbnb, GARDE Summerland finds its home in a 1921 two-story farmhouse, completely renovated for its new adventure.The ground floor makes for the perfect embodiment of indoor/outdoor California living: complete with an outside patio and its roaming Silkie chickens, the retail space features a wide selection of furniture, lighting, and home accessories.

Simultaneous to the opening, the store also launched new collections – in most cases exclusive to GARDE Summerland – by designers and design studios Ben Storms, DIM Atelier, Arno Declercq, Portola Paints, Emilie Lemardeley, Terres d’Albine, and GARDE’s first in-house furniture line, HOUSE Sofas, in collaboration with Los Angeles-designer Mandy Graham.On the second floor of the building is the GARDE HOUSE: GARDE’s first foray into hospitality. Available as an Airbnb rental starting August 1, 2018, the 1,000 square foot space was transformed into a gorgeous apartment, complete with a selection of GARDE furnishings – also available for purchase – which will change seasonally. Amenities include Anglepoise lighting, Casper bed frame and mattress, When Objects Work cookware designed by John Pawson, Lefroy Brooks kitchen and bath fixtures, Piet Boon Base dishware, Mad et Len custom scented candle, and a GARDE HOUSE sofa.

With in mind the revitalization of the Summerland community, dear to founders and celebrated tastemakers Scotti Sitz and John Davidson, GARDE collaborated with a collective of designers and makers to restore the historic building, remained unchanged from its past fifty years as an Antique barn.Within minutes from the beach and the coastal charm of Santa Barbara, Montecito, and local wineries, GARDE Summerland offers visitors and guests alike a delightful and cozy experience, and the opportunity for a full immersion into GARDE’s acclaimed world and aesthetic.

Portola Paints supplied the paint for the first and second floors and created a GARDE line of colors handpicked by Scotti that are also available at retail; Peter Van Cronenburg developed a special GARDE cabinet and door pull that are displayed on cabinet and doors throughout the two spaces, as well as represented at retail; Los Angeles-based flooring expert Ryan Silverman of Studio E&R provided the wood coverings for the two floors; candle makers Mad et Len developed with Scotti a custom scent called Terre D’Eté to adorn the two spaces, also available for sale on the first floor; Anglepoise LTD provided two 1227 Wall Lamps in the deep slate color for the apartment.
