1. Design Brief:
Dr. Suresh Kain and his family approached VSU Designs seeking a modern transformation for their 1600 sqft, 3 BHK home in Vapi, Gujarat. Their primary desire was a contemporary aesthetic that prioritized functionality and remained budget-conscious. They envisioned a space that felt light, airy, and maximized the available space.
Key Considerations:
• Modern Appeal:
The family desired a clean, contemporary design language throughout the house.
• Functionality First:
Practicality and efficient use of space were paramount, especially considering the family of four.
• Budgetary Constraints:
Striking a balance between achieving a modern look and staying within a defined budget was crucial.
2. Key Challenges:
Balancing modern aesthetics with budget constraints presented the primary challenge. We needed to find creative solutions that delivered a contemporary feel without resorting to expensive materials. Additionally, maximizing space utilization within the existing layout was essential for a comfortable living environment for the family.
3. Material Selection and Reasoning:
To navigate the cost limitations while achieving the desired modern look, we focused on innovative material choices:
• Light and Open Feel:
We employed light-colored paint palettes and strategically placed mirrors to create a sense of spaciousness and reflect natural light throughout the house.
• Creative Texture:
To add visual interest without breaking the bank, we incorporated unique textures. Jute fabric sandwiched between glass panels on partition walls offered a textural element while maintaining an open feel.
• Personalized Touches:
We used materials to personalize each bedroom. The son's room employed blue hues and football-themed drawer knobs reflecting his love for the sport. The daughter's room drew inspiration from a floral wallpaper she brought from Russia. We utilized flower-printed ceramic knobs and rustic pink tones to complement the wallpaper, creating a feminine and personal space. Dr. Kain's room utilized green as a base color, incorporating various textures for a sophisticated ambience.
