The polygonal shape of the building responds to the street and urban space of the existing buildings. On the one hand, the building is positioned against the street and creates a presence and address, while on the other hand it allows the creation of a green space (distance to the residential buildings and the kindergarten garden) and generates a shared forecourt for the kindergarten. The differently inclined roof surfaces result from the different room heights required for the functions to be accommodated and respond to their immediate urban environment.
The different functions of the „Haus der Vereine“ are connected via a common, two-storey centre - all areas participate in this space - encounters are encouraged and communication across the storeys is made possible. The club and recreation room is positioned as a key function to the forecourt and the common centre. Regularly frequented, it is the (joint) figurehead of the new building. Together with the common centre, it creates a generous flow of space via a large connection. All functions with musical use could be accommodated under the sloping roof construction and thus fulfil the requirements for ideal room acoustics.
