Renovations of the Dnister Hotel in Lviv | 2021
location: Lviv, Ukraine
stage: concept
team of architects: Andrew Ryeznikov, Yaryna Dobra, Dariya Krokhmalyuk
Having learned the results of the All-Ukrainian competition for the best architectural solution for the renovation of the Dniester Hotel in terms of reconstruction of facades and planning the entrance to the groups of underground floors, we want to share our vision of solving key problems in evaluating works, namely:
- to adhere to the general style of the building while preserving the conciseness of the forms and rhythm of the elements - our project proposal is dictated by the desire to return the image of the hotel as much as possible to its original author's decisions. Spectacular achromatic colors, contrast of continuous glazing of the facade and painted suprematic light gray volumes. In our work, the details of the original idea are also important: the color of the frames - the type of glazing, the font of the inscriptions, the visual dialogue with the park and historical architecture.
- to update the roof of the observation terrace
- the awnings were replaced by a glass cantilever cover;
- to propose solutions that will decorate / hide / take away the air conditioners on the end balconies and provide light - decided to hide the air conditioners from both ends of the facade behind the hinged elements. The left end is separated by vertical lighting, and the right - without changes in the image of the facade, hidden by partitions on the balconies;
- covering the central entrance - metal brackets that would be attached to the floor slab of the 2nd floor, sewn around the perimeter with a cloud of small spotlights inside;
- to form an entrance down the spiral ramp with a cover, which in the future should serve as a conference hall. Spiral lines of the ramp cover and the opposite retaining wall, which we also suggested to illuminate;
- to develop the plan of arrangement of the territory around with observance of inclusiveness, street furniture and bicycle parking. And also some important decisions in our opinion:
- minimal interference in the authenticity of the lower part of the facade of the restaurant, which seems to be hanging in the air along Rileyeva Street with the restoration of the original inscriptions;
- restoration of the line of the glass facade of the 1st floor;
- the form of covering the ramp with a dome-shell with a glass roof is adaptive, which allows for a more thorough reconstruction without changing the space of the ramp as a conference room.
