A Community Center for the Elderly

Project Year: April 2020

Issue: The elderly are lonely and need community premises that will allow them to socialize and stay active.

Intention: To design an interactive community center for the elderly to stay active and age healthily.

Target Users: The elderly, mostly those that have retired, are now lonely and have nothing constructive to do.

Characteristics: Natural Light/Ventilation; Socially Interactive; Boundary-Less Indoor/Outdoor.

The aged face a variety of problems which make them feel isolated, lonely and depressed.

Within the community center, the elderly would be involved in urban farming for traditional Chinese medicinal plants. These plants will then be harvested, processed and consumed as tea for health benefits. During the activities, the elderly would engage with like minded people allowing for interaction and elimination of social isolation, keeping them fit and healthy!
