Tianli Education Group, renowned for its commitment to integrating international education with the essence of traditional Chinese culture, has invited Perkins&Will to design its premier K12 school in Southwest China. Situated in the historically rich area of China’s new first-tier city Chengdu, now also recognized as a burgeoning hub for high-tech industries, the campus is envisioned to offer an exceptional learning experience, promoting the appreciation of cultural diversity and broadening global perspectives.

“川西聚落”与“创新廊道”

Bridging Local Context with Future

设计从传统四川灵动自由的民居建筑中汲取灵感，将模块化的教学组团以开放错落的院落形式组织起来，并以“创新中庭”为核心空间，组织一条由南向北延伸的“创新廊道”，串联各类特色教室、工坊和共享学习空间，活泼的空间节奏和丰富多样的空间形态鼓励学生尽情自由地创造与深入探索。传统文脉的特质与面向未来的空间特色在这里交汇。

Reinventing traditional local residential architecture, this school reimagines the campus with accessible, playful courtyards catering to different age groups. It features modular teaching clusters around a spacious atrium, conceived as an ‘Innovation Courtyard.’ From this central point extends the ‘Innovation Corridor,’ stretching from south to north and linking a variety of special classrooms, workshops, and shared learning spaces. The lively rhythm of these spaces, along with their rich and diverse forms, embodies the fusion of traditional essence with future-ready learning, fostering creativity and in-depth exploration among students.

“创新中庭” – 校园活力的枢纽

The Hub of Vibrance

位于校园中心的“创新中庭”是学校日常人流集散与活力集聚的空间枢纽。开阔的尺度与良好的导向性，为可容纳 2500 学生的校园提供了充裕的集散场所和充满归属感的空间体验。与此同时，设计围绕“创新中庭”布局了图书馆、餐厅、国学馆、演艺厅和体育馆等各具特色的共享设施，让“创新中庭”真正成为校园多样化使用的空间聚核。你可以午间在这里徜徉，享受片刻的阅读时光；也可以放学时围坐在钢琴旁，与同学们忘情合唱。这个独特的场所保留着孩子们独特的成长记忆。

At the heart of the campus lies the ‘Innovation Courtyard,’ a central hub designed to foster community and belonging among its 2500 students. Bathed in natural light and expansive in scale, it serves as a multifunctional space for study, play, and socialization. Encircling this ”courtyard”, the design incorporates a variety of facilities – including a library, cafeteria, a hall dedicated to traditional Chinese culture, a performing arts theater, and a sports complex. The Innovation Courtyard stands out as a vibrant center for a multitude of activities, offering students the freedom to interact, learn, and relax. During lunch breaks, they can meander through this area, engaging in reading or reflection. Post-school hours transform the space into a lively social scene, where students can gather around the piano for a communal singing session.

校园里的文化符号 Pay Homage to Heritage 成都天立学校的办学特色之一是国学艺文课程，校园设计从建筑、景观、室内都意在打造一种传统与现代相得益彰的和谐氛围。建筑上，浅灰色纤维水泥板淡雅且粗粝的立面，和错落有致的深灰色斜屋顶，传承了传统民居“青砖瓦房”的建筑特色；景观中，中式园林的引入，丰富了外部空间的层次与趣味；中式窗格等富于文化特征的语汇也被融入立面与室内设计之中，增添了校园的细腻与温度。

The campus’s scale and detail relate to the site’s architectural heritage. The buildings feature a subtle and coarse-grained facade with light gray fiber cement board, along with well-arranged dark gray sloping roofs. Within the landscape, Chinese garden elements enrich the external spaces, adding depth and interest to the overall environment. Additionally, cultural elements such as Chinese-style lattice windows are incorporated into both the facade and interior design, infusing the campus with a sense of refinement and warmth.

教育建筑作为教育的一部分

Education Architecture as Education Tool

学校建筑作为教育的一部分，用形式与空间来培育和塑造学生的心智成长与社会责任感。校园作为城市的有机组成部分，同样以面向未来的开放和可持续发展姿态，践行“立己达人”的价值观。校园的体育馆和演艺中心可独立的在周末及假日对外开放，方便社区居民的使用和社区氛围的营造。室内设计全部采用绿色环保材料和装置，还通过多种绿色节能策略，培养学生对可持续发展的意识与实践。

The campus, integrated into the urban fabric, champions open and sustainable development, enhancing lifelong learning and well-being for its citizens. Facilities like the sports arena and performing arts center are publicly accessible on weekends and holidays, fostering a dynamic community spirit. Emphasizing sustainability, the campus employs eco-friendly materials and green strategies, nurturing a culture of environmental consciousness and sustainable living among students.
