Ancient ruins and today’s farm

汉长安城遗址区独占西安城西北一隅，卫星图上的它在漆黑的夜晚和主城区明亮灯火围绕下尤为显眼。坐落在热闹繁华的长安城，在多年寻求开发与保护平衡的探索下，占地三百余亩以城市休闲和绿色农业为主题的米禾农场诞生了。而作为农场的启动建筑，米禾礼堂和 Leban 餐厅率先开始。

The Han Chang’an City Ruins area is located in the northwestern part of Xi’an, which is particularly conspicuous on satellite maps in the dark of night and surrounded by the bright lights of the main city. Located in the bustling city of Chang’an, Mihe Farm was born after years of searching for a balance between development and preservation, covering an area of more than 300 acres with the theme of urban leisure and green agriculture. The farm’s initial buildings, Mihe Auditorium and Leban Restaurant, are the first to be built.

礼堂部分的原址早先是一个近代红砖建造的临时轻加工厂房，原布局与新生的功能需求难以兼容，最初的改造计划也变为仅对厂房西侧的外立面的局部保留，作为与场地记忆小小的呼应。礼堂南侧则是由政府主导开发商业街区中的一座难以定义风格的独栋建筑，也就是改造后今天 Leban 餐厅部分。

The original layout of the auditorium was incompatible with the new functional needs of a temporary light processing plant built in modern red brick, and the original renovation plan changed to only partially preserve the west side of the plant’s facade as a small echo of the site’s memory. On the south side of the auditorium is a single building in the government-led development of a commercial district, making it difficult to define the style of the building, and it is the part of the restaurant that was transformed into the current Leban restaurant.

餐厅的厨房部分与礼堂相连，平日两者独立经营。但在建筑形式上采取了联通，所以礼堂没有了南侧立面，餐厅缺失了北侧。当然新建部分的礼堂在尺度和形式上都受到遗址保护区的约束。索性我们“镜像”了现有餐厅建筑的轮廓，带来一种“哥俩好”似的效果。

The kitchen part of the restaurant is connected to the auditorium, and the two are operated independently on weekdays. However, the architectural form of the buildings is connected, so that the auditorium does not have a south facade, and the restaurant is missing its north side. Of course, the new part of the auditorium is subject to the constraints of the conservation area in terms of scale and form. Instead, we’ve “mirrored” the outline of the existing restaurant building to create a “brother and sister” effect.

新旧参杂新的开始 Integration of old and new and a fresh start

礼堂四周黑色碳化木的使用奠定了外立面温和恬静的基调，搭配着简洁的双坡金属屋面，既满足经济改造的要求，又在最大程度上保证了礼堂建筑形态的完整。东侧临街面格栅的背后将空调设备和内廷遮掩其中；北侧则是由黑色钢制外廊指引出的主入口和礼堂部分的可开启门窗；西边改造后的红砖墙搭配着景观阶梯为人们提供最佳日落观赏区域。作为礼堂和宴会厅主背景，两条狭长的种植内庭被嵌入建筑主体，毛竹从硕大的暗灰色屋面伸出，增强了建筑与农场风格的律动。

The use of black carbonized wood around the auditorium gives the façade a soft and serene tone, paired with a simple double-sloped metal roof that meets the requirements of economical renovation and maintains the integrity of the auditorium’s architectural form to the greatest extent possible. On the east side, the air conditioning and courtyard are hidden behind a grill at street level; on the north side, a black steel corridor guides the main entrance and the auditorium portion of operable windows and doors; and on the west side, a renovated red brick wall with landscaped steps provides the best area for viewing sunsets. As a backdrop to the auditorium and ballroom, two long, narrow planted courtyards are embedded in the main body of the building, with bamboo protruding from the large, dark gray roof, reinforcing the rhythm of the building and the rural style.

在功能使用上，礼堂的第一重心是‘小众’婚礼举办，其次是各类活动的承接。所以婚礼的流程的展开成为空间动线及布局的核心要素。接待亲朋、敬茶改口、婚礼仪式、宾客宴请大都在早午时间有序进行，各内部功能之间连同北侧草坪的空间互通也满足了不同规模的婚礼与活动的需求。

In terms of functional use, the first focus of the hall is to hold “niche” weddings, followed by a variety of events. Therefore, the unfolding of the wedding process becomes the core element of the spatial movement and layout. The reception of friends and relatives, the tea ceremony, the wedding ceremony, and the guest banquet are all carried out in an orderly manner in the morning and afternoon, and the spatial interoperability between the internal functions and the North Lawn also meets the needs of different scales of weddings and activities.

阳光温暖我们的主角儿 Sunshine warms our protagonists

与建筑外观的黑色干练形成反差，米禾礼堂内部空间整洁明亮，大量的留白方便了新人们和活动举办方根据各自喜好与需求进行私人场景定制。礼堂建筑的大屋面下融入了多种形态的空间，入口处的穹顶将天光由圆中心带入，让人们从室外的喧闹中安静下来。礼堂的单坡顶与清晨穿过内庭毛竹的光线呼应，宴会厅主背景的光线则在正午时刻照亮全场的主角新人。

In contrast to the black and dry exterior of the building, the interior of the Mihe Auditorium is clean and bright, with lots of white space for the newlyweds and event organizers to customize their private scenes according to their own preferences and needs. The large roof of the auditorium building incorporates a variety of space forms, and the dome at the entrance brings in the light of the sky from the center of the circle, allowing people to rest from the hustle and bustle outside. The single sloping roof of the auditorium reflects the early morning light through the moso bamboo courtyard, while the light from the main backdrop of the ballroom illuminates the main pair of the room at noon.

我们希望通过米禾礼堂营造出一个有光和人情温度的时刻，在这里阳光随着时间从屋面以不同姿态漫入到内部，调节着空间的节奏，从而催生出多样的氛围，以适应不同的场景需求。米禾农场将在以城市为中心的大景观的依托下，为人们忙碌的生活带来别具一格的小憩与清爽一刻。

We hope to create a moment of light and warmth through the Mihe Auditorium, where the sunlight from the roof diffuses into the interior in different positions over time, regulating the rhythm of the space and thus creating a variety of atmospheres to meet the needs of different scenarios. Mihe Farm will bring a unique moment of rest and refreshment to people’s busy lives with the support of the great landscape centered on the city.
