TASK

The main task of the reconstruction of the premises was to improve comfort and safety conditions for a long-term stay in the shelter during the threat.

And also create the space which can be used in peaceful times.

The designed space is located in the basement of building

During the planning process the basement was divided into functional areas

Eat-in kitchen area is equipped with wending machines where visitors can buy snacks, drink coffee or even cook noodles. Below kitchen is situated storage area where long-term products and drinking water can be stored.

The font that have been used for lighting is created by Ukrainian graphic designer Ivan Tsanko its called "Zvin"

It seems there are problems with electricity...

In case of power outage luminous tape will glow atleast 6 hours as it is not depend from an electricity power.

The shelter`s navigation system is also equipped with tactile paving for safe walking and tactile evacuation plan in Ukrainian Braille for vision-impared visitors.

There is a wall panels with custom ornament carved on wood. This is a composition which has been designed on the base elements of Hutsul ornaments.

Coworking & lounge zone are designed to function as workspace with tables that can be transformed into bed if you need to stay longer. Overall number of seats is about 84 or 48beds, benches were not counted.

The main furniture complex is divided into sub-zones depending on the level of inclusiveness. Both of this areas can be transformed, so the workspace can serve as lounge zone and vice versa. But a larger area of green space in the diagram below can be more comfortable to use for people with disabilities.​​​​​​​

Wooden materials, floral patterns and lots of green shades dominate the design of the shelter. This was done to reduce stress level of visitors during air raid alarm.

The podium part of the furniture complex is inspired by a tatami podium bed. The designed podium has many drawers where mattresses or blankets can be stored. The platform has empty sections where you put your feet to sit at the table.

There is an option to sit at the table or rest on the table when it is lowered. The table top has two sides, the solid surface can be rotated to the pillow side and then go down the rails and lock onto the podium by push to open mechanism, the cushion on the side can also be raised. See the scheme below

The podium is equipped with a heating element inside the seat cushions, and its maximum temperature can be adjusted to 50 degrees. This way, visitors can spend time in the shelter with more comfort.
