CAIRO MODERN ARTS MUSEUM - Bachelor Project

When introducing this bachelor topic, which is about rewriting and reintroducing something new to a historically rich site that has witnessed numerous significant events and protests, I was concerned specifically on the reasons behind and the methods by which people expressed their opinions and demands during 2011 revolution. The 2011 pro tests were primarily motivated by the desire to remove and change the ruling regime. But how did protestors express their opinions and needs during these protests? Primarily people used two distinct methods. On one hand, they expressed their anger and demands through violence, through burning and torching an entire building. But on the other hand, the only peaceful way available for protestors to voice their opinions was through Art, which became a very powerful tool for expression and unity among people. The project aims in creating a landmark for modern art architecture and design; an attraction point to all of the surrounding art galleries and institutions. A place for art teaching, learning and exhibiting. A place promoting for art, underground artists and big artists. The project aims as well in promoting and enhancing tourism in the town down by establishing the first modern arts museum of its size in Cairo. The museum will be the starting point for both, tourists and locals to continue exploring the beauty and hidden museums and art galleries in the downtown area.
