Frankivsk is Love

Ivano-Frankivsk really impresses with its hospitality and authentic atmosphere. This city is one of the smallest regional centers in Ukraine (with about 230,000 citizens), but there are a lot of unique places. You can often hear the names "Stanislav" or "Stanislaviv" around the city. It is the old name of Ivano-Frankivsk from 1662 to 1962.Interestingly, Ivano-Frankivsk was built as a fortress. The town was originally surrounded by wooden walls and later stone fortifications with an earthen rampart and a moat.

Task

Various wayfinding items had been installed in the city before we began to work on our project.

Old Ivano-Frankivsk wayfinding elements had different designs and concepts and were made by several companies. Because of this, it was hard to understand and navigate the city. Also, a lot of information on previous city wayfinding maps has not been updated for some time.The task was to unify all formats of wayfinding elements, develop a single map and identity for all items and distribute tourist flows so that people see the most outstanding city locations.

Map and design

We have designed several general maps and detailed segments of the city center. Divided into zones and allocated the pedestrian part, as it is the main part of the center. We have thought out the design of the icons for better orientation and native perception. Colors and fonts were taken from the city's brand book.We emphasized the location of a user and the convenient orientation. All the elements are located

in accordance with the position of the person which makes them clear and easy to use.

Stone and wood

While creating the concept, we focused on the materials and decided to keep the shape and color very minimalist. We chose HPL panels of several shades and porcelain for the decorative lower block as the main materials. One of the unique features we decided to add to some navigation elements with a location icon is a slice of wood.The structure itself consists of an iron base that runs through the entire wayfinding pylon and an iron frame - these elements are monolithic. All facade materials are included in special grooves (they can be changed if needed) and fixed at the bottom level.

Realization

We had a presentation on the concept of a new wayfinding system in the city council a week before the senseless war that Russia unleashed.Ivano-Frankivsk city council accepted all the proposed options for wayfinding elements, materials, and sizes. For obvious reasons, the project is frozen until better times. But we believe that when the war ends, we will finish the installation part of the project.

We are a Ukrainian company based in Ukraine. We have a large team from different cities in Ukraine. We were shocked on February 24, 2022, and our main task was to survive and relocate. When the first days passed, we began to volunteer to help citizens of Kharkiv to get humanitarian aid. We are doing everything we can for Ukraine to win this senseless war. We hope that one day we will be able to continue full-fledged work in Ukraine, and for now, we are trying to refocus on the external market and load the studio with work.
