NOBILITY AND NEUROSCIENCE
“Nobility and Neuroscience” two-piece console table and interior was designed while pondering and researching on personality psychology from a neuroscience perspective. The focus of studio theorist’s study was on understanding the neuroscience of nobility, i.e., the potential neural basis for the formation of a noble character. The Five-Factor Model (Big Five) postulates that almost all personality traits can be categorized into five major groups: extraversion, neuroticism, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Personality neuroscience applies various psychological and neurobiological theories/tools in order to measure individual differences in the structure and function of the brain and eventually establishes links between the neural architecture and the so-called “Big Five”. By integrating knowledge across these fields it may be possible to understand the molecular basis of “nobility”. The obtained data could be used for psychological/sociological explanation, prediction, and intervention; potentially resulting in the creation of better humans/societies.
