Award-winning design studio A-nrd have completed the design of Cocotte Richmond, the latest outpost from the free-range healthy rotisserie restaurant chain. Located in the popular South West London riverside town of Richmond, the interior concept for the new 62 seat restaurant blends a rich palette of organic materials in warm, natural tones to create an inviting and homely atmosphere for the new neighbourhood eatery.
Upon entering the restaurant guests are transported by the studio’s signature use of colour, texture and bespoke design. Creating a cocooning foundation for the scheme, walls feature a limewash finish with a grey hued lower half and a warmer, blush tone on the upper half and ceiling.
Seating here at the front of the restaurant combines a large wall-to-wall bespoke sofa style booth designed by A-nrd studio. Crafted from oak the booth is upholstered in Kirkby Design’s Spiral, a recycled weave in a contemporary ochre and is paired with complimentary dining chairs with a textured weave from Casamance. Custom tables designed by the studio in square and rectangular form feature a creamy white terrazzo resin surface framed by oak and grounded by solid black bases.
Decorating the walls, large oak mirrors break the expanse. Lighting across the restaurant is provided by a mix of architectural track lighting and spun brass pendant lights from Marset.
A bar area is central to the space. Defining this focal area, terracotta hued ceramictiles frame the bar and breakaway from the restaurant’s oak flooring adding a dynamic rhythm to the flow of the interior space. The sculptural bespoke bar features a chunky solid oak base crafted to showcase the beauty of the natural timber. A golden terrazzo resin adds pattern and colour to the façade with an oak surface completing the custom piece. Ceramic counter-top lights beckon guests to perch at the four leather bar stools upholstered in Sunbury Design’s Hardy Satchel.
Adjacent to the bar, further booth seating upholstered in Casamance and tables are located. Here, paper and brass accent wall lighting is framed by oak timber panels which make use of the empty vertical wall space through the custom design device.
Moving towards the rear of the restaurant, the interior takes on a moodier and more atmospheric feel. The rear plan includes an open kitchen counter. Pulling through the material palette, the kitchen façade utilises the golden terrazzo resin featured across the bar thus connecting the areas visually, whilst we see further terracotta tiles utilised to clad the wall of the oak waiter station.
Wall-lined booth seating here curves around the interior architecture. Crafted from oak the bases feature a more sculptural shape in comparison to those at the front of the restaurant with upholstery in an olive-green hued textile from Casamance.
On the walls, a long bespokewall mirror adds visual interest to the limewashed plaster walls. Original brickwork has been left exposed and completes the cosy casual feel of the area and table lamps from HK Living and Serax add to the ambience.
Comforting and relaxed, A-nrd have a created a gentle and relaxed environment for the charming South West London restaurant. By subtly referencing materials and shapes employed by the studio in the design of previous Cocotte restaurants, the new opening feels familiar yet fresh with an elevated soft, minimal interior style.
