Sanssouci Palace
Potsdam, Germany
Sanssouci Palace - Built by the Prussian King Frederick the Great, who spent his summers here. But be aware, you probably won't find the palace that deserted. It is usually well visited and there are people everywhere. But the new AI feature in Adobe Lightroom did a pretty good job and I was able to remove all the people from the photo.
Although Sanssouci is smaller and built in the more intimate Rococo style compared to the grandiose French Baroque of Versailles, it is equally distinguished by the many temples and follies that adorn its surrounding park. Designed and constructed by Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff between 1745 and 1747, the palace fulfilled Frederick’s desire for a private retreat away from the formality of the royal court. The name “Sanssouci,” derived from French, translates to “without worries” or “carefree,” highlighting the palace’s purpose as a place of relaxation rather than governance.
