The Nest
" Some stories begin when the day is about to end"
The story of the Nest begins from a casual evening talk with my friend about her dream's home. She and her partner are getting married and they are hoping to build a house together in a near future. They have bought a narrow lot in a busy neighborhood where the sound of car honking and people shouting has become a norm.
She is an accountant that loves art and sculptures. She wants her home to be a little artsy studio that soothes her artistic soul after a long day of dealing with numbers. Her partner, on the other hand, is an engineer that enjoy simple yet functional space.
How can you create a place that is both artistic and minimal without losing the characteristics of both? One thing they both love though, is the sound of leaves rustling and bird chirping over the trees.
THE LIVING
Stepping away from the busy street, the Living opens up an artistic welcoming space. The composition of furniture and colour palette create a sculptural space that every element become a sculpture itself. The minimal use of furniture and simplicity in the forms keep the Living clean and sharp; raw concrete wall become the canvas for the art to be expressed.
THE HEART
From a boldly coloured space, the ambience is slowly transitioning into a more transquil and calm space, where lies The Heart. These are the places my friend would love to spend after a tiring day at work. The mixture of soft green and pineapple colour with the touch of timber flooring and window frame offers a warm and pleasant environment.
THE MIND
Sitting in between The Living and The Heart, The Mind is the place for wisdom and knowledge. Not as strong as The Living nor as calm as The Heart, The Mind is designed in a minimal style with simple geometric forms that clearly define edges of different programs. Dominantly using white tone with marble tabletop and concrete wall creates an intellectual ambiance. The skylight opening up into the indoor garden brings natural sunlight in, easing the boundary between inside and outside.
"HOME SWEET HOME"
needs and desire". Only when we feel the sense of belonging in the house that we can call it a home.
The design is still at the very conceptual stage that definitely needs more refinement on functionality and space arrangment, but as a whole the visualisation reflects the values and beliefs of the house's owners.
I made the little video at the begining of this blog as a study of how lighting and sound could bring out the story of certain space.
I'm not selling the Nest, but the experience of living in The Nest.
