Pekan Koboi is located in the heart of Bagan Datuk, a historic town center for the latest district of Perak State. As part of our Final Year Project, we rebranded Pekan Koboi as a new catalyst for a vibrant semi-resident community grounded with commerce and access to live work and play  ​​​​

LITERATURE REVIEW

Pekan Koboi originally was a fishing village before its calm and quite town opening. It is located in the Bagan Datuk District which is famous for its coconut-based industry. Fisheries and agriculture has become the locals' main source of income. The literature review stage identifies the main principles for a town center and how it should be developed without compromising its historic identity.

SITE INVENTORY, ANALYSIS AND SYNTHESIS

Site Inventory was conducted by using a set of checklist based on the town center principles and the conversation plan for historic urban landscape. Land developability, nodes suitability and environmental sustainability was identifies by using the layering technique.  Pekan Koboi has the potential to be developed as a dynamic historic living city that capable to accept contemporary approach and integrate it into its existing built fabric. This is to inject a new vibrant life into city and gives many opportunities for locals, visitors and public partnership.

DESIGN PROCESS AND PRELIMINARY MASTERPLAN

With the existence of residential area, public realms and civic buildings, Dynamic Pekan Koboi is capable to accept contemporary approaches without compromising its historical built fabric. The development focuses on public realm enhancement, environmental conservation and town connectivity. The new face of Pekan Koboi will gives many opportunities for enjoyment, recreational, entertainment and business activities to be experienced by locals, visitors, and private and public partnership.
