The project aims to homogenously integrate the public with the history of Peru, while raising awareness and combatting the environmental state of affairs; wielding the interventional sustainable reinvention of the passive system of mashrabiya with raw vernacular material.
The massing, reminiscent of the topology of Incan Architecture, used topology Optimization to determine the load paths which were -digitally- materialised using discrete reinforced stones. The remaining voids were then filled with wooden voxels of similar size, and the shed lattice was optimised to minimise solar radiation and positioned on framing pilotis that hold it firmly in place. A polyester mesh fabric is wrapped around the lattice to condense & collect water, and quincha towers were added as supports.
The continuously jagged surfaces of the floor, wall and ceiling of the building were designed to replace furniture as well as to stimulate the users to make use of the in-between spaces that allegedly have no function; to interact with the architecture and reform it just as it forms us, in full symbiosis.
