Inside-out living is the application of biophilic design to housing to bring residents closer to nature.

Located in the Jakarta area, to be precise in the West, a part of the city filled with residential and office environments with minimal green open space. The present landscape not only maintains natural vegetation, but is also integrated with housing and public spaces, so that humans can live with nature in their daily lives.With biophilic design, Inside-out living creates an experience of living in harmony with nature and preserving it for sustainable living.

The land is designed with massive green areas to slow water runoff while reducing pollutants from domestic gray water. Retained trees and new plantings provide environmental protection for wildlife habitats. A fertile landscape with a series of programs aimed at promoting a space of interaction and social equality in the residents of the surrounding communities who come.

Access is divided into 3 with minimal paving that accommodates pedestrians, cyclists, and residents who use private vehicles. The parking area on the land is only intended for residents so that people are indirectly forced to keep walking or using bicycles if they want to visit the site.

Green Housing Modules

Natural green vegetation is maximized in all residential areas in harmony: utilizing endemic vegetation as a noise barrier and improving air quality, applying green roofs, bioretention planters, and inner courtyards as air purification in housing, maximizing all surfaces as a strategy to deal with rainwater runoff with detention ponds. (accommodating), permeable paving, and other green areas as infiltration areas.

Building Modules

Cafetaria

Carrying the biophilic concept, the mass of the cafeteria is divided into 2 so that it meets the needs of an area of 400m2 with green areas around it. Opening the building on 2 sides according to the direction of the sun and wind, Cafeteria also places green open space in the gaps of the building in order to increase user connectivity with the natural environment. The cafeteria is visualized as a connecting road between public areas and residential areas on land.

The cafeteria is also equipped with 3 urban farming spots (vertical, hydroponic, and aquaponic gardens) which are useful for meeting food needs in the cafeteria as well as educational facilities. Using a tropical roof shape, the angle of the roof slope is adjusted to slow down runoff from rainwater and also captures sunlight with solar panels to meet electricity needs. Green open areas provide a natural atmosphere that supports pedestrians to relax and get around.
