Architect John Comparelli commissioned me to photograph this north-facing extension to a 17th century Grade II listed farm house. The new extension replaces a late 20th century conservatory and older lean-to.
Commensurate with 17th century origins, the original farm house is just one room deep and so the architect’s design provides not only an elegant kitchen living space, but also alternative access to principal ground floor rooms beneath a full length, low roof light, echoing the historic concept of a pentice. Removal of previous structures along the north elevation, allowed for the restoration of an historic stone mullioned window to the exterior, plus the creation of a sheltered external seating area.
