I was commissioned by Weal Architects to photograph a new sustainable house situated in a conservation area.
Constructed using a timber frame, hemcrete and other breathable materials, the house is designed to have low environmental impact, while fitting into the surrounding residential context. A front porch faced with randomly laid and unknapped chalk flints provides an unusually textured feature on the front elevation. The southerly facing garden elevation has a deep roof overhang to mitigate temperature changes from solar gain. At the owner’s request, the living room is on the first floor of the house.
This project won both a civic award and the Hertfordshire Association of Architects Sustainability Award in 2017.
