SHELLED HOUSE
ISTANBUL,TR - 2021
HORM WIN YOUR DESIGN
The Twin Houses, designed by Utarit Izgi in 1968, was organized in two independent units under the same roof. Twin houses, separated by a garden, were built around a two-story atrium, which connects the sea with the garden and provides good airflow.
The reason for choosing this special building is that although it is close to the city, it is located on an island where you are disconnected from the city, it is integrated with nature and it includes you in it and makes you feel as if you are a part of this whole.
The design and positioning take advantage of the natural elements surrounding the house. It’s truly a work of art.
Thanks to its ceiling-to-floor windows and structurally well-resolved openings and settlement on slope , the sea, earth, sky and trees are felt from almost anywhere in the house.
Our main criterion was to settle in the best way by adapting these feelings to the comfort of living and to integrate with nature like its behavior with nature through the materials and forms we chose.
Entering the top floor, which also houses the garage and the master bedroom, a foyer leads you down to a great hall on the middle floor comprising an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area.
Material selection is very important to integrate with all.The house is a mix of wood, concrete, and glass, with a brutalist facade and a classic, midcentury modern look that also feels surprisingly contemporary.
The idea is to create interior spaces that are devoid of extraneous materials, colors, textures.
Complement living things and movements are the colors ; such as art, book, object, animal, human, rainbow, music and love.
Our all consideration is integration in and out.less is more.and creating a place without shell.

We conceived this floor, which is the life of this building. While we were working on the layout, our main goal was keeping communication through the spaces while dividing the areas functionally. We prefer to use the dining table chairs without backs so that the communication with the living room continue.
We kept the fireplace existing placement. By using the large sofa diagonally and back to back, we combined two areas with a single product. Instead of using a single coffee table, we created a moving center that can be used as both coffee table and a pouf.
We kept the main kitchen in existing place, but we created a simple bar corner associated with the dining table and the living room in front of it. While providing separation by dividing the working area with a permeable bookcase that can be used in common with the loaf section.
The poufs in the gallery allow you to dominate the living room and the upper floor. The sculptures we put here describe the live performance.
