WANNA STUDIO TRANSFORMS THE PETIT PALACE SOL HOTEL IN MADRID
People make places. And not the other way around. If the Madrid neighborhood of Sol is so mythical and beloved, it is not because of the stone facades or the stores. It's because of the people who come and go through its streets.
With this "costumer centric" approach we changed the approach with which Hotel Atelier wanted to carry out this project. The differential value of their Petit Palace Sol is not, as they thought, its location, but the brand's ability to delight. From that premise and combining creativity, analysis, design and strategy in a complex exercise of user experience, we developed a surprising proposal that changed the orbit of our client's business.

Petit Palace Hotelity chose us to carry out the refurbishment of the ground floor and basement of their centrally located hotel in Sol. Their main objective was to improve the overall guest experience. It seemed relatively simple. But it turned out to be one of the most complex projects we have ever undertaken. Global pandemic by the way.
When we went into the hotel we discovered that to "improve the overall guest experience" it wasn 't enough to simply "facelift" the space and bring it up to date. It required a much deeper reflection, as we detected a number of pain points in the space for the guest that needed to be addressed:
- Tension during check-in.
- Poor circulation in the breakfast room.
- Excessive off-peak hours in wasted space.
To solve this Rubik's cube, we went through an intense and complex zoning and user experience design exercise that led us to make two important strategic decisions:
- We would give new uses to the basement floor.
We would do so in order to surprise guests, promote their wellbeing in the hotel and improve the perceived value of the hotel. So we designed a multifunctional space, recreating the cave effect, with a children's area and a relaxation area.
We built the entire brand narrative of the project around the idea "guests are our Sun". This idea starts from the location of the hotel and establishes a metaphor between the Plaza de Sol and the people: guests and employees. They are our centre. With it we wanted to reinforce Petit Palace's commitment to always delight its guests and take care of its team. And conceptually it allowed us to develop an interior design that evoked the warmth of the sun .
This can be seen in the color scheme (orange and gold tones reign), in the furniture, lighting and decorative objects chosen (in which rounded shapes predominate) and in the materials selected. But also in the signage and in the graphics in the space, as can be seen in the messages that form part of the verbal universe that we developed for the hotel and which are distributed throughout the space.
Before this project, the hotel's prime location was the main attraction. But we can say that after passing through the WANNA filter, guests have many more reasons to stay ❤️.
