1st prize project "HEM"

HEM is a bed inspired by the simplicity and the sobriety of the modernist movement, following the precept : Less Is More. In architecture and design, this movement frequently results in the exposure of the structure, as an assumed part of aesthetics.

The main concept of HEM consists in giving the feeling that the headboard and the boxspring have been hemmed or pulled up. Rather than hiding the structure, the soul of the bed, it is unveiled in a discreet and elegant way.

The design features a strong contrast between the structural parts and the upholstery, like day and night, brutality and softness. A piping emphasizes the junctions and accentuates the hem effect.

HEM’s design language expresses calm and serenity. It offers several points of view on refined details and has a great customization potential with high-end & natural material combinations. The design also aims to highlight the know-how of cabinetmaking and upholstery in bed manufacturing.
