Waiting with anticipation to welcome you into the newly developed Orato Offices is a space reclaiming its often overlooked, undervalued namesake – the office lobby. This lobby is rebelling from being seen as a transitional space and instead demands all that enter to pay attention, shake loose from the daily grind and enjoy.

This project stands as a testament to the power of reimagining the ordinary into the extraordinary. With meticulous attention to detail and an iconic Dutch collaboration this is a bold departure from convention. The Orato Offices lobby is not just an afterthought—it’s a captivating gateway, redefining the traditionally mundane nature of corporate design.

Strategically situated in the Amstel Business Park precinct, this space needed to create an instant yet lasting first impression, setting the Orato Offices apart from its neighbors. Beyond this, it was important that the Orato Offices developed a discernible, unique visual identity. Becoming an experience rather than just a building. Distinguishing the Orato Offices lobby design as a standout project is the seamless collaboration between The Invisible Party and renowned Dutch artist Maarten Baas.

“We grow older, wiser and more mature, but with that, we also lose our childlike energy. I am looking precisely for that naivete, for that wonder and curiosity.”
—— Maarten Baas
Known internationally for his playful, colorful and thought-provoking work, Baas was brought in to inject his signature style to the space. The Invisible Party’s design revolves around the idea of a blank canvas. A neutral and complimentary space to not only showcase the works of Baas but to balance the grand and industrial architecture of the building. Here the lines are blurred between office, cafe and gallery. This space is not just an entrance to an office; it’s a celebration of art.

Welcoming all into the space, suspended from the atrium is a digital chandelier repeating the words “MORE MORE MORE”, nodding with tongue in cheek towards consumerism and today’s corporate landscape. To the right, a bespoke reception desk in Maartens distinctive Carapace style provides information and refreshments. The Invisible Party implemented varying textural finishings such as flagstone tiling, patchwork sheer curtains and a plush pillow wall delivering a level of intimacy to the architecture. These furnishings not only create a warm and hospitable atmosphere but are considerate of the lobbies functionality and provide pleasant acoustic qualities. Amongst the neutral tones and soft textures Baas’ iconic colored clay furniture pops in a variety of configurations throughout the lobby adding flexibility, communal spaces and playfulness.

“As interior designers we focus on how a space makes you feel. The spatial experience is something you remember and makes you want to come back to a place. At Orato we wanted you to feel welcomed and at home but also special amongst great art you’d typically only find in a museum setting.”
Vivian van Schagen

The synergy between architect, interior designer and artist creates an exclusive, hospitable atmosphere enticing all who enter to utilize the space to its fullest potential. Businesses who reside within the Orato Offices will only benefit from having access to a lobby such as this one. The Orato Offices lobby stands as a testament to innovation and collaboration, redefining a traditionally undervalued space into a dynamic setting. Defining a new standard for office design.
