LADYWOOD RESIDENCE;
Project Location: Lake Simcoe, Ontario
Software Used: Revit + 3dsmax + Unreal Engine 5.3
Company: ERA Architects
Project Date: August 2024
Project Description: Ladywood was a unique and charming Shingle Style summer home on Lake Simcoe, built for the Vernon family, and designed in the early 1890s by the short-lived but brilliant collaboration of Darling, Curry, Sproatt & Pearson. One of fledgling ERA’s first site calls, our visit to Ladywood a full hundred years later was captivating and became a legendary ‘what if’ project for the firm. Alas, this architectural treasure was eventually demolished before the opportunity arrived to further document it.The legend of Ladywood stuck with us. ERA’s heritage expertise in digitally reconstructing lost or no longer legible architectural elements, either for posterity or for restoration, was therefore put to good use. In this case, our U of Waterloo summer intern Oluwatobiloba Babalola was tasked with recreating Ladywood from a handful of photographs and sketch plans preserved by the family. Using Revit, Sketchup, and Unreal Engine, Tobi was able to model the lost building and bring it back to life.
