TIMBER FEVER 2024; TORONTO - 1st Place Award
Project Title: Tributary - Team 5
Project Location: Toronto
Design Process: Hand Sketches + Revit + Building with Timber

Project Date: September 12th - 15th 2024
Project Concept: A tributary is a stream that flows into a larger body of water. Inspired by the 2018 theme “Water Station,” our threshold embodies the transitional nature of a Two Step Home, acting as a tributary, guiding residents from a temporary to a permanent home. We harness natural rainwater to create an inviting and comfortable space where residents and their community can store and reuse water. A slanted roof with an inset gutter collects rainwater and channels it into a storage system. This water supports an irrigation system for a vertical garden growing up a trellis, reaching the roof. Plexiglas covers the roof to let sunlight in, simulating the experience of sitting under a tree, and the green wall next to the bench offers shade and promotes airflow, creating a welcoming environment for gathering. By integrating water, we aim to provide residents with a sense of vitality and hope for growth in their transitional home.
