Cultureclub.Design has designed a music bar in Shibuya Dogenzaka called Kyoraku. In an alley in Shibuya bustling with cutting-edge Japanese culture and trends, designer Daiki Mitsui sought to create a modern Japanese space where guests can enjoy music and drinks.
The studio’s concept was to blend the contemporary nature of a music bar with the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, creating a new entertainment spot. The walls feature a design that conceals the pillars, allowing for a simple and eficient layout. The materials used in the space are chosen to exude quality, with colors that evoke a sense of Japanese tradition.
The bar counter incorporates ibushi tiles, commonly used in traditional Japanese houses, and the projector screen uses washi paper, merging traditional beauty with modern technology. Additionally, the back bar incorporates a display shelf designed in the style of a Tokonoma, combining functionality and aesthetics. As a symbolic piece of art, we placed a 200-year-old wooden Daruma mold, drawing visitors into a unique world.
