Pelio Estate is a family-owned boutique winery located in Monterey, California, designed by Hawkins Interiors. The space combines natural materials with vintage furnishings, creating a warm, inviting atmosphere.
For their tasting room in Monterey, the owners of family-owned winery Pelio Estate joined forces with Hawkins Interiors. The family homestead property sits at the epicenter of what they declared as the “southern edge of the Santa Lucia Highlands wine growing region of Monterey County”.
For the estate’s newly opened indoor and outdoor tasting room, a sprawling bungalow with ocean views, they incorporated a variety of vintage furniture and pieces crafted by local artisans.
Two different seating arrangements with kitchen nooks greet guests on each side of the door. The right side is floored with grey stone and features leather banquet seating, while the left is wood laying below a softer blue velvet-like material.
On the other side of the room, several bistro-style tables are backdropped by a wall lined with wine bottles. The bar features an oversized charcuterie board and circular twisting light fixture designed by Burger.
Cabinets of hand-carved Honduran mahogany, crafted in the late 1800s, frame either side of the bar and add to the vintage ambiance.
An open-air patio adjoins to the main room through double doors. A bar seat lined with more of the brown leather similar to that seen within, and cabinets of Californian-sourced walnut are set against the stone wall of the bungalow.
Other bars and wineries in the region include Crisp General Store & Tasting Bar, which features a vaulted interior and exposes the natural colour of the rafters that contrast against the dark black exterior.
