The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is an annual global competition for talented high school students in the field of chemistry. Countries from around the world send a team of four students to represent them, where their knowledge and skills in chemistry are tested through two exams: a practical laboratory test and a theoretical written exam. Each test lasts five hours, with the practical exam usually conducted before the theoretical one on separate days. Each delegation consists of four students and two mentors, one of whom is designated as the head of the delegation or "head mentor." The team may also include some guests and scientific observers.
The Olympiad program aims to stimulate students' interest in chemistry by solving independent and creative chemical problems. It also seeks to enhance international communication in the field of chemistry, foster friendships among young scientists from different nationalities, promote a spirit of cooperation among students, and facilitate the exchange of educational and scientific experiences related to chemistry.
