Malfinio renovates 19th century apartment
Malfinio’s flat E07, located in Prague’s Bubeneč district, underwent a customised renovation in 2022. The project, inspired by the clients and their young family, features meticulous choices of materials, colours and textures to reflect a contemporary living space with a distinctive character.
Malfinio’s strategy adapted to the specific needs of the client, who had clear ideas, such as the use of concrete floors with a star pattern and a mirrored kitchen island. These elements, together with furniture brought from another location, contributed to the customisation of the flat.
Interior layout and adaptations
Originally composed of smaller rooms, typical of the period, the flat underwent considerable changes in its layout. By eliminating some walls, Malfinio created a central space that serves as the hub of the flat. This change not only altered the movement patterns, but also allowed the bathroom to be enlarged.
On one side, the central room opens up to the children’s room, characterised by Montessori elements, while on the other side it connects to the bedroom with a workstation. The living spaces are characterised by soft colours and clean, regular lines of atypical furniture, creating a cohesive and functional environment.
Fun elements and prominent features
.
The corridor, described as ‘wilder looking’, sets the tone for the flat’s playful design. It includes an interplay of mirrors and a flow of colours on floors with distinct patterns, ranging from medium grey to mustard ochre and powder pink. This entrance area leads to a separate, concealed toilet and a large bathroom.
Lighting plays a key role throughout the flat, with a combination of standard interior lighting and furniture lighting enhancing particular atmospheres and highlighting prominent pieces of furniture. These include Jiří Krejčík’s Stella coffee table, the Roly Poly armchair and the iconic Togo Sofa.
In addition, the flat features remarkable designer fabrics by Geometr Studi, which add a unique and eclectic aesthetic to the project. Malfinio’s renovation of flat E07 demonstrates a balance between functionality and artistic expression, resulting in a modern and deeply personal space.
